And We Will Dance One Day: a memoir written in Persian, read in EnglishResearch is not the only writing leaving this desk. And We Will Dance One Day, a memoir of about 80,000 words written in Persian and translated into English, is now under consideration in a full submission round.
The full manuscript is with Dzanc Books and Split/Lip Press. Excerpts are under consideration at AGNI, The Common, ACM Translations, Four Way Review, and Markaz.
The book tells the story of a childhood divided by divorce and war, a father’s return to Iraq and the choice between his two families, and a mother who held a household together through all of it. It is, in its own way, also a study of minds under pressure, which is perhaps why it sits comfortably next to the research programme on this site.
